Aug. 14 – Sept. 20

Olfactory Art Keller invites you to inhale a vanished world. “Her Scent of Mystery” uncovers the strange and forgotten history of “Scent of Mystery,” the perfume created for the 1960 Smell-O-Vision film of the same name, made for Elizabeth Taylor’s elusive character, Sally Kennedy.

Conserved by Jas Brooks (@jas_x_flowers) and Tammy Burnstock (@inglorious_smellovision), this once-lost fragrance has been preserved and studied. Drawing from both the original oxidized perfume (by Raoul Pantaleoni) and historical accounts, perfumer Marissa Zappas (@marissazappas) has crafted a new interpretation through chemical analysis and creative reconstruction, evoking what the film’s novelization described as “the girl at the far end of the rainbow.”

The perfume is presented in a bespoke flacon by Mark Eliott (@markeliottglass) Inside a case created by Luke Scheppers with glass bead details by Aybike Orhan Eris (@aybikeorhanglassartist).

The exhibition traces the fragrance’s curious journey from cinematic plot point to unrealized Schiaparelli product, with archival materials including press photographs, booklets, and more.

Alongside original illustrations by Nadia Roden (@nadia.roden) from documentary “In Glorious Smell-O-Vision: The True Story of the Godfather of Scented Cinema” with three bespoke scents by Jocelyn Fullerton (Cult of Scent).

“Her Scent of Mystery” reveals how perfume, persona, and projection briefly collided on screen: from Elizabeth Taylor’s investment in “Scent of Mystery” to its lingering afterimage in scent history today.
